He meets Julia, a waitress at the banquet hall where he performs and learns she is similarly engaged to a man named Glenn and planning to get married.
A friendship begins to form between them as they frequently work weddings together. When the special day comes for Robbie, he is left waiting at the altar by his fiancee, Linda. Linda confronts him after the failed wedding and admits she fell in love with him because he was an up and coming rock star with big goals. Linda expresses disappointment in Robbie that he never followed his dream and settled for performing at weddings.

This shatters Robbie's belief that love can conquer all and sends him into a spiral where he cannot even perform adequately. Julia sets out to cheer Robbie up and restore his faith in love, she goes so far as to arrange a double date so she can introduce him to a friend.
During the date, Robbie discovers Julia's fiancee, Glenn, has been cheating on her the entire time and has no plans to stop once they get married.
